The nation's leader conducted a visit to meet with national troops in the Pokrovsk area on the start of the week. Zelenskyy announced that he engaged with soldiers at the military base of the first unit of the Ukrainian National Guard Azov, which is conducting a defensive operation in the Dobropillya sector, an urban center approximately a short distance from the city.

Intense Conditions in the Region

Geospatial data from a local initiative showed that invading troops had made gains into Pokrovsk and nearby locations, though a large portion remained beyond firm control by both forces. The situation remains critical, with reports indicating that Russian forces were establishing defenses and building up positions in various sectors.

Invading troops are pushing forward in the Pokrovsk direction and appear to be operating with enhanced confidence within the city proper.

Analysts noted that national troops had recaptured substantial territory of a Russian penetration in the Dobropillya direction, on the eastern flank of the Pokrovsk campaign.

National Aerial Attacks Deep Inside the Federation

Ukrainian long-range drones struck a factory approximately over 800 miles inside Russia at the location. Regional authorities confirmed a blast at the Sterlitamak facility that led to the partial collapse to suffer damage, adding that the origin of the detonation was undetermined. The armed forces leadership stated there was considerable damage to the plant.

National forces confirmed attacking a petroleum facility at the location in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region east of Moscow. The extent of the damage was being assessed. The Russian regional governor confirmed an attack by multiple unmanned aircraft near the refinery.

Moscow's Military Strategic Shifts

National guard personnel will now have to guard oil refineries against aerial attacks after the president signed a law on the start of the week expanding their participation in the conflict. The head of state also approved legislation authorizing recruitment throughout the year whereas previously it was possible only during specific times in autumn and spring. Russian law prohibits recruits from being assigned to fighting, but after their defense commitment they become part of the backup units, placing them in danger of being sent to war.

Substantial defense expenditures have also started to stress the federal treasury, with the government increasing levies to plug a rising deficit.

Ukrainian Leader's Calls for Global Assistance

Zelenskyy urged the US to remain open to delivering to the nation with far-reaching military equipment. Speaking at an EU meeting from the eastern front, the Ukrainian president also demanded more global measures on the federation – including on Russia's gas and nuclear sectors – and said he wanted Ukraine to join the EU before 2030.
